MissVW82's Pewter Grey 2L GT

Post by MissVW82 »

I searched for a Pewter Grey 2L GT for over 6 months . . several viewings and disappointments . . and nothing.

Then in June a friend of a friend advertised their mapped Pewter Grey 2L GT Scirocco on Facebook, it was an exact match . . if not better . . . than what I had been looking for! The guy is a car enthusiast and a aircraft mechanic, so I knew the car had been in good hands. So I didn't hesitate in buying it :D :D :D :D :D

This is what he looked like at pick up

None of the pics are working, well for me anyway.

Also where did you get the dash cam hard wired into and what dash cam you go for as it's something I'm looking into. I have a dash cam but it runs off the 12v socket and the 12v socket appears to be permanent live in the Scirocco which is of no use.

You need to upload your images to a host like Photobucket & post the "IMG" option of the images for them to be shown.

Since then I have made some very small changes to put my mark on it

Gas struts

Scirocco Door Sil plates

Hard wired Dash cam

Also had a private plate put on, a VW heart in the old tax disc position , alloys refurb and a touch up on the bumper (from a scrape in a car park, before I bought it)

This is how he looks today

I'm currently investigating a few projects, any advice would be appreciated. I've got easy access to the hardware & Software required.
1) needle sweep function,
2) Side mirrors dipping when reversing
3) The big one - upgrading to folding mirrors.

More small upgrades to come . . . :D

Is the picture above helpful or do you need more info paddy?
I bought a cheap camera off ebay from china, to see how I got on, and its AMAZING!
two rotating cameras, good night vision, good picture quality - not HD but still high quality.

The camera is almost identical to this. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-7-1080P-HD- ... 280a652e13" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I think they are made in one factory and two or three different other companies buy it a redistribute them under their brand. On this camera. the only thing that is different is the brand name and positioning of the brand logo. Everything else is identical. you will need to buy a 32GB SD card for it too.

I'm using an old action camera SJ4000 (looks very much like a go pro :D but the battery won't charge after 6 months of usage) other than that you can't really fault the quality of the video plus it has autostart and loop recording functions.

The camera gets its power straight from the fusebox same as MissVW82 - piggy-bagging from one of the slot (except her way is alot tidying than mine  )

Hope the pic helps.

I dun think the 12v socket is permanently live - I am sure I read somewhere on the internet saying there is some voltages circulating after the engine is switched off but only enough to power a led light on the plug. No doubt someone here will correct me

Thank you. It's fast! Scary, white knuckle, make your heart thump . . . . FAST!

The guy who had it before me really looked after it and added some great extras. I was looking for a standard model, with a winter pack, that I could mod myself. No need in the end.

With the dash cam, was the standard wire long enough to run to the fuse box or did you need to buy a hard wire kit?

The seller I bought it from is out of stock. The picture above is similar. Use the text/title to do a search on Google. If I find a better link I'll send you a private message.

The last project of the year was my brakes. They still had the standard OEM kit on them, and on occasion I was experience fading and a spongy pedal. After talking to friends and reading lots of posts on this forum I decided to do a simple upgrade to the OEM kit.
New Tarox F2000 slotted discs & HP pads at the front, standard disc & Pagid pads at the rear and new HEL brake hoses. New brake fluid as you would expect, Dot 4. Caliper clean up and green paint/lacquer to protected from the weather at minimum. They look smart too [WINKING FACE]

Sorry about the quality on the one above.

I had a lot of help with this procject and I currently have an outstanding I.O.U. For "a couple of curry nights with beer".
I should also say - Thank you - to a number of members on this forum who offered a range of advice over the last few months on this project. [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH][SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH AND TIGHTLY-CLOSED EYES]
