Haha no I was just indicating to move out of the way of my other friends who were also doing some acceleration tests.
Just being polite :-)

Been a week now and about 600 miles and getting used to it now :) It drives lovely.
Clutch is still a b*stard.

It's heavy and bitey, I'm used to it but sometimes it does catch me out. Hill starts in traffic are a nightmare. Biting point can change as well if the clutch is hot too.

After having them sat around for a week while I was working on a car I spent yesterday evening applying CQuartz to them. Being white, it's an absolute b*tch to apply because you can't see where you've applied it, and the design is very fiddly so you don't good visibility with the light

I ended up putting 2 coats on the barrels and faces and I left them to cure over night - this evening I will apply Reload as a top up tonight, prior to having them fitted. Just hoping it will enable easy cleaning for a year or so, the brake pads can dust a fair amount!

I need my existing tyres swapped over, probably fortunate as my current front tyres are getting a tad low, so will just rotate them when we put them on.
Am quite happy to finally get them on, hopefully it's tonight and I can clean the car and get some nice pictures

All coated up and ready :)

Cheers buddy
To be fair looking at yours was one that helped tipped me towards getting the TD's
They're not the fanciest wheel but pretty nice. I narrowly missed out on some Speedline Turini's which would have been a dream.. .but hey ho

Brand new set of wheels for £540... can't complain. And they were supposed to come as 73.1 CB but I think they are actually 57.1 as the Spigots are nowhere near close to fitting lol. I may test fit a wheel this evening just to be sure prior to having the tyres done.

They'll look great against the blue I think, are the 18's or 19's?

Nice motor - but personally preferred the stock OEM alloys on the TDI

Cheers for the comments, understand your point of view (@quickshift) :)

@Dave, They're 18x8 et45.
I kept the 12mm spacers on there..so they are in effect 18x8 et33 I may upgrade to 15mm front / 20mm rear as the wheels sit in a tad further now than they did before (stock alloys et41->29).

Ignoring the dirty car...

Thanks Jay, I'm considering a set of TD's (either 1.2s or 1.3s) and I can't decide whether to go 18" or 19" (I'm leaning towards 18").

Personally I really like the white although I bet they'll be a nightmare to keep clean haha

You'll never seen them that clean again unless you remove the wheels and detail them each time... that's why I'm going for gloss black, clean the faces leave the rest!

We had a group buy on Mk5golfgti.co.uk - I paid £540 or £560 for these, maybe worth speaking to Demon Tweeks to see if they had any more they could squeeze in on the same deal.
Phone Nick Smith on 01978 663064 or Email him at NickS@Demon-tweeks.co.uk, just say Jay from the Mk5 forum mentioned it.
They can also supply 19 inch 1.3s for something like £650.

I specifically put Cquartz on them to make sure they are easy to clean! Lol. Should last for 18 months or so.

I have done, but it's pretty common to do blue and black or anthracite, it's boring to me. i don't want to do anything boring.

I do detailing so that's not a problem lol. There's a lot of brushes which can be used to clean the barrels without removing the wheels so it's not too much of a worry.. will be a pain though I agree.

Is the CQuartz easy to apply? I might invest in the wheel product they do for when my new wheels are powdercoated.

You still coming to Brighton on the 21st?

I'm planning on it. Obviously still awaiting on an official time on the 21st.

depends if there's anything specifically for me to do at DMC that day, as I need the extra dosh pretty badly.

Cquartz is easy to apply (in my opinion)... better to describe it as fiddly. Can vary depending on ambient temperature and humidity.

Basically step is... 1) prepare with polishing if necessary and apply Eraser (which is a pre-coating cleaning agent to remove any additional dirt/oils/solvents which would effect the bonding of the cquartz)
2) apply cquartz using suede applicator..keep buffing till it's basically smooth.. when it's about 5-6 degrees leave it for a 4-5 minutes..buff off with the short nap side of a microfibre towel.
3) wait 20-30 minutes before applying an additional coat in same manner.
4) allow to cure in a dry dust free environment ideally for 18-24 hours* - aboslutely no water spots allowed, any drips etc must be wiped off.
5) apply reload (basically a spray sealant) then you are ready to go

* you can apply Reload after 1 hour of curing from final coat and it's then safe to get wet but should not be cleaned with any chemicals or shampoo for a week (7 days) if possible.
