Cheers!

Wouldn't have a clue where to start driving a DSG. Any newbie quick guide? :)

Re: Buying second hand - variants

Hmm, never driven a dsg actually. May test drive one if there's one near by.

Yours is still above my 12k budget mind haha, as lovely as it is!

Mines up for sale! 2012 R Line TDI 170 DSG in Viper Green. 37500 miles, brilliant mpg, plenty of go, really good condition. You'd struggle to find better for the price! Looking to sell rather than PX so I can put more deposit down. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201602040709455"...

Not a scirocco owner yet*

Currently work for a Building Society in project systems analysis, but hoping to go to university in September to study Paramedicine.

Re: Marbella

Be about 15 degrees during the day dropping at night, and should be mostly clear and sunny with the odd overcast day. Best sunrises and sunsets are about then, go for it!

Re: Buying second hand - variants

Cheers mate. I'm being patient, thankfully the guy buying my Z4 is happy to wait for me to source a good replacement.

Have posted a topic, ideally I want a 170 with leather/heated seats and parking sensors for under 12k, anything else is a plus :) Don't really want more then 70k miles.

Doable?

Re: Buying second hand - variants

With regards to the 140 version, is a good remap taking it up to around 170 likely to be as good as the 170bhp version standard? Struggling to find a decent example of a 170 within my price range (£12k) with heated leather. Plenty of 140's around that are fully specced up, cheaper tbh too so money l...

Fair enough, so it's finding someone who chose the Diesel as a compromise but still wanted a bit more power :)

Re: Buying second hand - variants

Spot on, sounds an easy enough job.

Why do 170 variants seem so rare to get? 140's are plentiful but a 170 with low mileage seems as rare as rocking horse shit looking round Autotrader, Pistonheads & eBay!

Re: Buying second hand - variants

Perfect.

Thanks for all your help!

So now I know what I'm after, time to to step up the search for a 170TDI 2.0 GT

I want it to have nav, but that's not a big issue because you can buy the head unit and just plug it in right?

Re: Buying second hand - variants

Sorry for the stream of newb questions:

On some photos I've seen there's a row of three(?) dials above the nav in the centre of the dash, but on others it doesn't seem to be there. Is this a pop-up feature or is it only available on some models? What exactly are the dials? Cheers

Re: Buying second hand - variants

Thanks for all your help so far.

CleanDiesel, budget is around £12k sadly so a decent 170 is still a stretch!

Looks like the 170 TDI is what I'm after. Just a shame they seem to be rare as hens teeth? Plenty of 140's kicking about, but not so much the 170's.

Re: Buying second hand - variants

I haven't tried the 140bhp but as they both produce the same torque I would imagine in real world driving there isn't actually much difference. 170 does have bigger brakes. 140s are plentiful second hand whereas 170s are a bit rarer. Really? I've been narrowing my search to the 170s thinking that t...

The 170 TDI is a very good compromise between performance amd economy.
Sorry, I meant from the two variants of the TDI. Is the 170bhp TDI a big step up from the 140bhp TDI.

Re: Buying second hand - variants

Perfect, I presume the 170bhp is a big step up from the 140?

Aii leather and satnav are big desirables, though I believe it's not too hard to swap out the headunit for a nav system if it doesn't already have it?

Got it, cheers!

About 30mpg average, up to 35-40 on a slow and steady long commute, down to 20-25 in town, down to 15 on a very spirited winding road drive.

PS: Is there no marketplace on here? I much prefer buying second hand cars from enthusiast forums where you know they've been cared for and can view the history.

Re: Buying second hand - variants

Brilliant, thanks for your help philjay. Probably be a 170 2.0 TDI i'll be after, need something frugal enough for lots of motorway driving but coming from a 3.0 Z4 I don't want to lose too much power. Plus I've read a few scare stories about the 1.4 engine? I presume the 2.0 TSI's though better per...
