MK7 Golf R

They called me on Saturday with an improved offer, which I accepted, so I'm now an official Golf waiter. Went with the camera and also added keyless, climate screen and phone prep (plus pretorias, DSG, winter and navpro).

Re: MK7 Golf R

Good spec wigit. Haven't purchased mine yet - Lincoln VW initially offered a low trade-in (bottom of book, then a fierce scaling factor for the period up to delivery, by the looks of things) for the Roc with nothing off the Golf. After a bit of to and fro they told me that they didn't yet know what ...

Re: MK7 Golf R

Replacing my beloved Scirocco R with one of these tomorrow, or at least sorting the order/deposit out. Delivery should be Mar 14. DSG, the new blue, 19" Pretoria wheels (look less aftermarket than the 18" Cadiz), pro satnav, winter pack, rear camera (although I'm test driving a GTI tomorro...

Re: More Accurate - GPS or Speedo?

How is a poll going to find the answer to the question? It's not a matter of opinion. Let's be scientific about this and do some experiments with a passenger timing between 100m markers on a level stretch of motorway, over as long a distance as you can go at a steady speed. Cruise control may or may...

Re: car, ipods & the cold

Not stupid at all. I've stopped using my hard-drive based iPod for this reason. I was always forgetting to remove it at journey's end. I've switched to an old un-simmed iPhone instead since the solid-state electronics seem to cope with cold a lot better.

Re: Pressure washers

Also keep your nozzles away from parking sensors and the seal around the sharks fin. The sensors are delicate little flowers and also prone to corrosion. On my MINI I had to replace the GPS antenna (housed in a similar fin) and the diagnosis was water ingress - the warranty still paid out though.

Re: RISING BLUE CLUB

Cheers Drew. Cornelce, I two-bucket it every week, but live half a mile down a dirt track so within seconds all my hard work's undone :) I thought the dirt added a certain something to this photo but I'll see if I can dig out a clean one.

Re: I have never seen an R

It was the same for me, Strat. I test drove a 170 manual diesel, then a Megane 250 Cup, then bought an R (having originally intending, nay promising, to buy a GT and not be tempted by the R). I had also borrowed an S3 for a day with a DSG box. I've only done 150 miles so far (I work from home) but s...

Re: The only R with 18" wheels in the world, seemingly

If nothing else, my message, which was obviously inaccurately titled, has flushed out all the other 18" owners. :) Impressions after a few days of use: 1. Comfy (but I'm coming from a MINI Cooper S, so everything is comfortable); 2. Quiet (see above), but a pleasant burble from the exhausts at ...

Re: The only R with 18" wheels in the world, seemingly

Bad back, bad roads, not really a ten-tenths kind of driver. I've always gone with the standard wheels on my cars, working on the assumption that the engineers sort the suspension with them in mind.

The only R with 18" wheels in the world, seemingly

I proudly announce the arrival, this morning, of my new Scirocco R, replacing my much-loved MINI Cooper S. More photos tomorrow, taken with a proper camera, after the first ceremonial cleansing. Full spec: RB DSG 18" SatNav/DynAudio/Parking sensors/Folding mirrors, Premium HFP Bluetooth. First ...

I saw my first three on Monday, at Motorline in Tunbridge Wells. One of them is mine and I will be running it in on Kent and Sussex's finest clogged arteries from Friday onwards.

Re: Another... Who is sill waiting? roll call

I popped in to the dealer this morning on my way in to town. In the showroom they had two blue Rs, one on 19s, one on 18s, both still with protective sheets and polystyrene bumper guards. One labelled as Stock, the other as Sold. Turns out the sold one is mine! It only took two days from dockside to...
