Just get back onto VW Customer Services. From my experience, they are keen to sort out problems with customers and will intervene with dealers.

I bought the rear one off a VW dealer through ebay just a couple of months ago. Im sure it was around £10 delivered.

I've seen a video of one of these units on a bench being recoded with a PC and when switched on it comes up with the Skoda logo, so guess this is part of the firmware of the unit and not dependent on what vehicle it is fitted in.
