Re: Looking to purchase first Scirocco - after some guidance

This article on the site MIGHT help you - I have not read it in full and the magazine article links from 9 years ago may be broken now. http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=13001 I'd be careful about paying lots for an 8 year old diesel with only 40,000 miles. Feels a bit ...

Update - MoT passed. Comments that the corrosion evidence from 2021 was still there, but it had not got worse.

Money well spent !

Re: HELP! How do you change the dipped Headlight Bulbs?

Aah, I have suffered this too. The driver's side, easy, the passenger's side is a right pain in the ...wrist. In the end I got some spanners and removed the bolts securing the entire headlamp unit to the front of the car (and the centre panel had to be unbolted too). Then the easier access made it a...

Re: First time buyer

Hi HD, For what it's worth, my 2010 GT TDi (170) has just clocked up 170,000 miles. I've not modded it at all and I think the general performance and comfort is fine as it left the factory. Daily use is a dozen miles commute on two-way roads rather than motorway or dual carriageway and with fuel pri...

Re: Underseal Reccomendation

Good evening Choni257, I'm nowhere near your part of the world, but I livce near the coast in Cornwall - plenty of lovely salty sea air.... My car had some warning signs at the 2021 MoT so I took it to a local independent bodyshop for undersealing. They had the care for 48 hours and: 1) Gave the und...

Re: Service Book Full

Maybe you could photocopy one of the full sheets and then use liquid paper to clear the writing off the copy? This would give you a blank form to copy over and over again.

Re: Scirocco - Common Questions

Steve, This "wobble noise" - is it a bit like a banging sound? Have you checked if one of the springs has broken; they are not the strongest components across the VW range.... With the brown stains on the back seat, I would fold the back seat down and check out the visible metalwork around...

Re: Rattling noise ?Gearbox?

Hi, how is it in Belgium today? I had a rattle on my car which might took me some time to work out. Does your rattle happen when the car is stopped and in neutral, or only while rolling? If it happens when you are stopped, have you tried it with the bonnet up? My problem was the bonnet stay arm vibr...

Re: VW Approved Use - the "142 checks" - what are they?

Thanks very much, I will take a look in a mo. We bought a VW (not a 'Roc) and subsequently had an email saying that there was some work which needed to be done. I wanted to check if that was covered by this list or not - I have a sinking feeling what the answer might be!

VW Approved Use - the "142 checks" - what are they?

Good morning all !

Does anyone here have access to the full list of 142 checks applied to every Approved Used VW? A little rummage online has drawn a blank so far but I am sure there are some clever people on here who might know.

I believe that the mirror parts are the same on Scirocco and Passat CC but as always I'd check the part numbers before buying. The changes in pre and post facelift could cause problems.

Re: 2011 Scirocco 170 fuel consumption

Hi Andirob, My 2010 TDi 170 usually returns an indicated 50-55 mpg (60mpg on a really good day!). There are a wealth of threads here between this Multi-Function Display reading and "real world" figures. I have listed out all the fuel I have bought and compared a calculated real-world mpg v...

Re: 2.0 TSI Rear wobble over bumps

I just had my rear shocks (at 150,000m) replaced by a trusted local independent - £800 inc the VAT because I did the pair of them, rather than just the leaking one. Rear end feels much better now but I do not recall feeling any "wobble" in the run up to the change as you describe it. I'm d...

Re: DCC Shock Absorbers

Same here - and after ONLY 150,000 miles of driving !

I've been quoted £830 to supply and fit both rear shocks by a local independent, possibly a bit less.

Was the £330 you mention just for the component, or labour as well?

Re: Starts and then staying rough

Have you considered if the fuel pump is doing its job properly?

I have seen a few members where the car was rough and the solution was connected to the fuel pump side of things.

Re: Alarm fault ?

I know the feeling. Are you using the car at the moment and keeping the battery charge topped up? A drop in voltage could trigger something or other perhaps? Or is there something living inside your car? We've had a big moth trigger our car before now - not fun to evict! Hopefully another forum memb...

Re: Updated Inlet Manifold (2.0 TSI)

You might get lucky if you contact your local VW Trade Part Supplies outlet. Yes, I realise you need to be "trade" but some places will sell parts to anyone - you won't know until you ask. Apparently some of these are open for business on a collection-only basis rather than delivery to sit...

Re: Constant metallic buzzing only when I'm applying throttl

OK, have you done a search of the other topics on this site? I put "heat shield" into the search box and the results sounded promising. Not all to do with the heat shielding, but also other bits under the hood which have been traced to make a rattle noise.

Good hunting !

Re: Constant metallic buzzing only when I'm applying throttl

Hi, sorry to hear that you have this problem. My car had a buzzing / rattle noise under acceleration, between 1,800 and 2,500 rpm. It turned out to be the bonnet strut vibrating against the engine bay panels and we cured it by putting a piece of foam padding under the strut before we closed the hood...
