Re: V MAXX springs

40mm on the vmaxx looked great and felt great (nice and solid, not so much body roll, really stiffened it up), but I did scrape everything. The original suspension feels like driving a boat now! Just a shame they’re so cheap and nasty. Will be going to H&R next I think, not so low but hopefully ...

V MAXX springs

Anyone had any trouble with them? Had mine on for 3 years, had to come off today as both rears snapped. Always been slow and steady over bumps and careful not to give the car a beating on none smooth ground. Thinking of H&R next but really, I didn’t think the v Max’s were low enough at 40mm so m...

Re: Gravely resurface road damage

Don't use your fingernail, polish or even a clay bar for tar spots. Instead, go to Halfords or any motorfactors and get a bottle of tar remover for about £3. Dab some on and the tar will run off. Make sure to reseal your paintwork wherever you've used it as tar remover will also remove any LSP.

Re: Track Day Booked....

What size are your supersports? I wanted them for my 18x8 wheels but was most upset to find they don't do a 235/40r18. I ended up going with the updated Hankook V12 evo2 in a 235 for half the price of a 225 supersport.

Re: Scirocco R - Worth it?

Haha it does sound a bit like I have a thumb shaped bald patch on my head. But to be fair. We would be getting rid of her car and she would be the one commuting in it whereas I'd get to enjoy it at the weekends. The shiney new car appeal is the fact it shouldn't need expensive parts anytime soon bu...

Re: wishbone bushes

If you're keeping the car get powerflex bushes. They last forever and really help firm up the ride, there's no play in them.

Re: Advice for newbie on lease deal

I ordered mine end of September got it beginning of December. Stacked with loads of extras and a 184 tdi engine which at the time was in short supply.

Depending which extras you wanted, many are cheaper and easy to retrofit anyway.

Re: Will these alloys fit my scirocco

Mercedes uses the same 5x112 PCD but they use M12 bolts. They look like aftermarket wheels with Mercedes centre caps so I'd imagine they'll fit the M14 bolts VW use, but they might not. Ask the seller to measure the bolt holes.

Re: Car Jack & Axle Stands

I can second SGS engineering. I have a jack and stands from them and they're solid and well made. Unless you hve an easy route to drag your Jack from storage to your car definitely go for an aluminium one, the full steel ones weigh an absolute effing tonne. Make sure to put cardboard strips in your ...

Mines a facelift without the panoramic roof. I've read about all the rattles but never had a single one on mine, it's 7 and 1/2 months old now. Maybe I'm just lucky?

Lots of scirocco's being broken on ebay.

Get in touch with them and see what sort of prices you can get.

Re: Has anyone had their paint repaired? Options??

That's what my paint chap did. obviously he's a pro, and paint can be tricky (particularly metallic) but you can't tell any of the chips were ever there.

It's worth noting however that atmospheric conditions have a big impact on how paint sets. It's not something for doing outside on the drive.

So far, I've tried a few products, but Somax's extreme wheel cleaner plus is absolutely phenomenally good. It's expensive compared to the others, but you get what you pay for. Doesn't react with your discs either.

Facelift bumpers

Other than the grills, is there a difference between facelift and 08-14 bumpers? Mainly regarding shape and size. I'm interested because I'm looking at getting a splitter for the front and possibly a spoiler lip or maybe a whole new rear wing, but can only see them advertised as fitting 08-14 and no...

Re: Has anyone had their paint repaired? Options??

Don't use paint pens. They're rubbish and getting a decent finish is an art to master. My car was hit when parked and I got the chap who re sprayed it to fill in the stone chips whilst he was at it. Can't tell there were ever any there. The paint on these modern VW's is terrible. It's so thin and so...

I think the parts come from the dealer, don't cost much, at least they didn't when I looked at doing it for my old mk4 golf. Was around £20 for the stalk. Then you need to find someone with vagcom to set it up.

Re: Car going back.. i think

Definitely don't get a diesel if you only do 3k miles a year. You'll have an equally expensive repair job when your DPF inevitably fails.

Diesels are for long journeys and lots of miles, not pottering around to the shop and back.
