Looking good! Always nice to see one of the early 58-plate cars being looked after - and it's on a low mileage for a 'Rocco of that vintage. What shade of silver is that? It may be the photos, but it doesn't look like Reflex to me.

Re: Unable to Start Engine and MFD Error Messages
I don't think it would have anything to do with the lights, as they would have switched themselves off automatically when you turned off the engine - assuming that you didn't sit there for 10 minutes with the ignition on unnecessarily or the engine running. I'm sure it'll be an easy fix, but perhaps...

Re: Green R
I think the viper green colour ran until the end of 2015, when ultra-violet was brought in. I'm pretty certain of this, because I placed my order for an indium grey R around October 2015 (when viper green was definitely an option), and within a few weeks saw that ultra violet had been introduced (an...

Re: Time to say goodbye
It must've been tough letting go, Paul. But I'm sure you'll enjoy your new toy! ;) If you don't mind me butting in on your thread, I'd like to echo your message. After 7 years of Scirocco ownership, I also will be saying goodbye to my R, to be replaced with a 20-plate VW Arteon. The R has been every...

Re: Damaged rear panel
Sorry to hear of the damage - an identical car to mine, and I know how I'd be feeling if that happened. Do you know whether the impact is restricted to that panel, or has it maybe even compromised the passenger door or possibly the rear axle in some way? I guess that's what you'll find out tomorrow....

Re: 2.0 gt TSI modified, vs R stock?
My guess would be that a stock R might be cheaper to insure, as it would be unmodified. If you declare your modifications to the insurance company on a 2.0 TSI GT, they may hike up the price quite a bit. You could also argue that an R is more likely to retain its value and be more sought after in th...

Re: My recently purchased Scirocco 2.0 TSi
Looks like a nice car - and one of the very first MK3 Sciroccos. Enjoy! Have you got much paperwork on previous ownership? It seems to have quite an erratic MOT history, in terms of dates and mileage. A steady 6,000-ish per year in the first few years, then a couple of years where it clocked u...

I know I'm probably missing something here, but I've been scrutinising the two photos and I'm struggling to see any difference between them. What exactly have you done? Sorry if this comes across as rude - that's not my intention! I'm actually on the lookout for a good interior cleaner, so I would b...

Re: Driving Position Ergonomics....
I'm the same dimensions as you, Matt, and I know exactly what you mean about the positioning. The other thing is that the door is very long, so unless you have the seat quite far back, you have to reach back a long way to grab the seatbelt! I've got used to the seat position, but do find myself lean...

Re: Reasonable Tyre Life?
That does seem pretty heavy wear, but it all depends on your driving style, I suppose. Mine is nearing 30,000 miles, with about 5mm left on all tyres. The car is 3 years old, and I swapped the front and rear tyres round to even out the wear. I think the tyres on my previous Scirocco (2.0 TSI GT) wor...

Re: Buying a Scirocco GT 2.0 TSI 2009-04?
Have you experienced frozen windows and how do you avoid it? =) Try winding down the windows and applying a good smear of 'Gummi Pflege' on the rubber seals at the top and bottom (where the glass rises from and slides into). This has worked a treat for me, in the recent temperatures of -1 to -6. Tom

Re: On the lookout for an R
Something to bear in mind, in case you didn't already know, is that VW stopped producing the R in viper green around early 2016 (at the point where they introduced ultra violet instead). So you won't find any viper green Rs that are less than about 2.5 years old.
Good luck with the search!

Re: Buying a Scirocco 2.0 TSI for remap
Is there any particular reason for wanting a remap? Why not just buy an R instead and save yourself the hassle (and potentially increased insurance premium)?
If you do go ahead and do a remap, I think it's advisable to go for DSG transmission rather than manual.

Re: Buying an R/ Questions
dog slow in D - too quick to change up - and too rabid in S - too slow to change up - It doesn't need more power, just more sensible gear changing patterns. I agree with this sentiment entirely, which is why I went for the manual rather than DSG. I know there'll now be posts saying, 'But the DSG ha...

Re: Collect my 2016 Scirocco R 2016 caddy white DSG next wee
In D it tries to drive it as economical as possible and in S it tries to drive it as hard as possible; you can always drive it in manual with flaps Yes, and that's exactly my point. You can't drive it in a 'normal' way, as you're forced towards either extreme. The only alternative is to use the pad...

Re: Collect my 2016 Scirocco R 2016 caddy white DSG next wee
Congratulations - enjoy the car! What sort of mileage is on it then? I was the opposite way round from you. I test drove a DSG R and then ordered a manual one. I just felt that in normal 'D' mode it would change up too early, and in 'S' mode too late. I suppose you get used to it - and there's alway...

Re: Ticking noise accelerating
Is it definitely speed dependant, rather than rev dependant? And is it definitely a 'ticking' rather than a 'rasping' or 'rattling'? I'm just asking as I have a sound coming from somewhere behind the dash when accelerating at around 2,500 rpm. Like you, the garage couldn't detect it.

Re: Squeaky dash
Thanks - that's handy to know. My best guess was that it was the 'soundaktor' resonating at a particular engine frequency - more of a raspy, fizzy sort of a sound - but it's handy to have other possibilities to investigate. Hope you manage to source the cause of your noises anyway. The worry, of cou...

Re: Squeaky dash
It's reassuring to know so many of us are in the same boat! Mine has had three rattles from new - two are from the padded headlining just above the doors, where the grab-handles are. These can be reduced by applying pressure to push the padding up. The third is from behind the centre of the dash (so...
