Funny one this... Should have asked here when it first happened. Not happened often though. Just a couple of times in the last eight years. First time it happened I was at my son's house. A cold and rainy day. I locked the car, went into the house. We thought we heard an alarm outside but ignored it...

I thought I'd check into Scirocco Central before trying to find out why my window washer pump has stopped working, and hopefully fix.

I think you're right, regarding the pinch of salt. My sons friend, the one who works at VW, is going to check what records exist for my car.

It might just be safer, though, to go ahead with a gear oil change anyway. Just for peace of mind...
